A Louisville native, Tamara Begley has been dancing most of her life, but she discovered her passion for modern dance at the Youth Performing Arts School, which she attended from 1995 to 2001. Her dance studies took her to the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, where she earned a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography. In 2010 Tamara earned a teaching certificate in dance from the University of Kentucky, and in 2014 Tamara graduated from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee with an MFA.
Eager to share her passion for dance with the youth of Louisville, Tamara has been teaching dance at Western Middle School for the Arts since 2010. She also maintains an active teaching schedule throughout the community.
Tamara's love of dance drove her to seek a deeper education in fitness training. While she has spent decades training and caring for her own body, as well as over a decade training other dancers to care for their instrument, as a full-time (aging) dance educator, Tamara sought to learn more about maintaining, and improving, her own fitness level so she could survive long days in the studio without injury. Cross training for dance with TRX, kettle bells, and body weight exercise (as well as other forms of resistance training) led to increased strength, flexibility, and balance, which improved Tamara's performance as a dancer and dance educator.
Tamara found that exercise outside of the studio to be an energizer, and as her own fitness improved and influenced her work in the dance studio, Tamara's passion for the benefits of working out led her to pursue personal training certification so that she might help others, dancers and non-dancers, to move better, get healthier and improve their energy levels. With the desire to achieve functional fitness for herself, Tamara obtained her Personal Training Certificate from the National Academy of Sports Medicine in 2016.
